“A philosopher once said that there are few things human beings are more dedicated to than unhappiness. Most people want to be happy, but they are too willing to accept that it is something they can put off while they wade through their current unhappiness.”
By Kari Fulmek

If I had a quarter for every time a client confided to me about their plans to do the work that really interests them when they retire, or as soon as their debt is paid off, of whenever their last child leaves home, I’d have enough money to single-handedly feed a developing country.

Life is hard. That is a reality. We all have tough times to wade through to regain our balance.

We have to respond to health emergencies. We have to ensure that those who depend on us are fed and clothed and protected from the weather.  There are dozens of different responsibilities that we all have every single day. But one thing we have in common is, that one day, it will all come to an end.

But if you keep deferring happiness on an endless self-imposed moveable timetable until you believe your conditions are conducive to receiving it, and you end up spending your most vigorous years doing work you hate just to make a dollar, life passes and with it all that you could have been.

At Equine Connection – The Academy of Equine Learning Inc. in Alberta, as people learn about their true motivations and gifts through interacting with horses, I watch them grow and understand that while you can’t control what life throws into your path, you can control yourself, your responses, and your power to work purposefully from this day forward.

Whether you find happiness when you are 25 or 85 depends largely on your personal empowerment. By that I don’t mean your strength or ability to push your agenda forward. I mean the process that you take to regain control of your life when it goes off the rails.

When you understand that what you really have in life is this day and your own actions, life changes in an amazing way.

You begin to understand that you deserve to use the gift within you and apply it to your work so that you see a purpose to your energy exertion.

You may not be able to make massive life changes all at once, but every day you can move closer to your goal as long as you don’t keep moving it further away on your timeline.

There is really only one goal to find happiness in your life, and that is to be empowered to do purposeful work that empowers both yourself and others.
Move closer to that every day and you will achieve it.
And in the process, every day you will find a happiness that up to now may be eluding you.
