Be clear about your intention in life

When people who have never worked with horses before start to engage with their four-legged teachers, they are sometimes frustrated that they cannot get horse to perform the simplest of tasks.

The students are teachers who are masters in their own world of work, making commands and having people follow them.

The horse does not care whether the person working with them is the CEO or the parking lot attendant. They don’t care whether the student has a doctorate in molecular science or a dog grooming license.

All they care about is how the person relates to them. They decide based on that action how they will respond.

It is the purest possible form of communication. There are no fancy phrases and tactful cover-ups that sound like one thought but really mean another. It is what it is.

The horse seeks the true intent of the person holding the reins. If the intent is not clear or is not authentic, the horse does not respond as the person hopes they will.

If we were as genuine communicating with people as we have to be with horses, we would realize that the essence of empowerment is having a clear and obvious intent.

Growth is closely linked to intent, as is progressing in the direction you want to move in life.
Sometimes you will try to grow or move in a certain direction and it doesn’t work. You should not be discouraged by that. It is just a sign that your direction is in a different place.

People will move with you in life and follow your leadership if you have a clear intention, are consistent in the execution of your intention (as in setting up processes people can clearly relate to), and listen to what people tell you and are open-mind about whether or not it is valid.

If you think that you want to make your life a journey, but your intent is to stay where you are in your current destination, you will wonder why you feel stuck in place. Only when you clarify your intent and unify it with your action will you start to move forward again.

A good way to figure out your intent is to ask yourself these three questions:

• What did I do today that I loved doing?
• What did I consider today that ignited me?
• What resources do I need to get to where I want to go?

A clear intent coupled with an attitude of empowerment will make you unstoppable.
