“To be empowered means you must use your energy to move and change yourself and others. Your values will be the tools that will help you know which direction to take.”
By Kari Fulmek

Empowerment is a process that requires exercise. You must move and grow if your life is to stay empowered.

But which direction should you take? And which way should you guide others?

None of us are born with all of the answers to know how we can best use the special gift we are given. We discover our insight only when we move in a certain direction.

Our movements are guided by our values, those special tools that tell us whether a path will lead to a good place or a dead end.

For example, kindness is one of my values. I don’t believe you have to be unkind to others to grow yourself and your business. If I feel that I am not being considerate of my clients or the people in my world, I am uncomfortable. That is not a road that will lead me to further growth.

Integrity is important too. You can’t expect people to trust you in your business if you do not behave with integrity.

Sharing and giving are high on the list. By that I mean you must be willing to give to and help others without expecting something back in return. Sharing and giving with strings attached are just disguised forms of manipulation. It is not a negotiation either; it is simply a gift.

Perhaps the hardest value to develop is an open-mindedness that precludes judgment of other’s actions and lifestyle. When people do things that we would not do, and make life choices that we think are inappropriate, we want to judge them. But we have no right to do that. That is a mini-law of empowerment: you have to stop judging others and yourself.

You cannot judge others because you don’t know all the chapters of their stories. You have never walked in their shoes.

You will meet people who are rough around the edges but are solid gold inside. You will meet people who are gilded with gold around the edges but are dark as coal inside.
It doesn’t matter. Greet them and give them your kindness and knowledge and see what happens.

Sometimes it will not work.

But mostly it will. And when it does, for each true connection we make to empower each other, the world becomes a stronger, better place.
