“There is no denying that money is a factor in all our lives. We need food to eat, clothing to keep us warm, and shelter from the weather. But money and the fear of losing it is the biggest barrier to the true empowerment of most people. It shouldn’t make you its slave.”
By Kari Fulmek

Money should not be allowed to keep you chained to doing work that you hate for year after year of the only life you have.

Of course there is a practicality to money of course that must be acknowledged. We cannot think only of ourselves if our decision will hurt us and those who depend on us.

But never let your money keep you from pursuing the true richness of life.

It makes me so sad when so many people in their 50s tell me that when they are 15 years older and able to retire, they will start to live life as they wish. They will work creatively, build time for exciting hobbies, travel and see the world, and even find time to take care of themselves.

Life isn’t being lived when it is put on hold. You are not empowered when you excuse yourself from living fully until some mysterious time in the future deems it is okay for you to do work that matters and enjoy yourself.

There is no defined bank account that says it is okay to strike out and start your own business.

Sometimes you have to find the energy to hold your job and start your business simultaneously just to pay your bills, but the business won’t grow if you don’t start it.

There is no age that determines the time is right for you to start living an empowered life. All you really have is this moment in this day, and there is no guarantee when your designated time to start living arrives that you will have the strength to undertake it.

Money, time and other excuses are just barriers that hold you back from authentic living. You deserve better.

Take one step today that moves life just a little bit closer to where you want it to be.

If you want to have a big garden and grow your own vegetables, buy one herb and put it on your windowsill and take joy every day in nurturing it and using it to flavour your food.

If you want to write a novel or learn how to paint, write one page today or paint one picture, no matter how bad each one might be.

With each simple act of empowerment, you grow a lot. The single herb becomes a full planter, and then a window box and finally a raised garden bed that brightens every day when you get home from work.

The single page grows into a short story and you discover how much fun it is to put your thoughts in order on a page. The single picture grows in scope and detail and begins to look better and better.

Empowerment is a process. You don’t have to throw away your current life and begin fresh just to make it work. You just have to start.
