“In her 1941 diary, Anais Nin wrote that there is an ugliness in being paid for work one does not like. Almost 80 years later, we still grit our teeth and celebrate “Hump Days” on Wednesday that slide our workweek downhill from there into Freedom Fridays. Imagine if you liked your work!”

It is sad that almost three quarters of people holding down jobs in today’s workplace are disengaged with their work.

They make up imaginary celebrations to psyche themselves up to get through a week of doing work they have no passion for and see no purpose in. They are just trying to get a paycheck to survive.

You can’t work that way when you become empowered. It becomes increasingly important to find that place where the real you emerges and you can immerse yourself in using your gifts productively.

Each of us is born with gifts and as the years pass, our greatest job is to take opportunities to use them and develop them to the maximum.

It is your one true job in life to identify your gifts, to take them out of you, and spread them across the expanse of the world. You use your gifts to empower others.

Your gift is the work you feel like doing even if you are not being paid. When you are wrapped up in it, it feels very much like play. There is no great distinction between leisure and work when you love what you are doing.

Sadly, many people go through life with their gifts still unwrapped inside them. Almost as bad are those who discover their gifts, and then let other people dictate how they will be managed.

Your gift is all you truly have in life, and how you use it is the key to your empowerment.

You cannot be empowered if you do not know what your gift is or how it can be used to benefit mankind.

That is why I love my work at Equine Connection so much. Through our facilitator training, team-building, youth programs and women’s weekends, we are able to help many people find their gift and give them the means to use them.

It is so gratifying to see people realize the power they have and the skills they can uncover that fuel them to live more authentically and fully.
